The Tablet PCs of today have a wide and diverse range of features and functions that can be utilized by a student writing an essay, a salesperson demonstrating the benefits of a product, or a graphic artist sketching out a design for later presentation.
Tablet types of currently available:
Slate Style Tablets - These portable and light weight models usually come standard with a stylus or interactive pen.
Touchscreen Tablets - Available in different sizes, touchscreen tablets have two different types of touch technology:
Resistive: Responds to pressure place upon the screen with a stylus or a finger.
Capacitive: This technology is more responsive than resistive touchscreens, but at a cost to accuracy in comparison. Capacitive touchscreens will respond to a fingertip and
mutli-touch models are available.
Creative Pen Tablets/Displays - For high resolution art, graphics and animation work. These tablets have the largest display size range, highest screen resolutions, and offer interactive pen, touchscreen and hybrid (pen & touch) models. In addition, some of these art oriented tablets have popular creative software pre-loaded.
Hybrid Tablets - Also known as Convertible Tablets, these models feature a display that can be separated from the keyboard. The detached display may have the capability to be used as a slate or touchscreen depending on the model.
Accessories for Tablets:
Many tablets will accept external keyboards, mice and even gamepads. For protection, cell-phone style cases, rugged cases and travel bags fit are available for many models. Some manufacturers and 3rd party companies offer docking stations for certain types of tablets.
