Just to let you know, I’ve finally been working with the Hovecam Solo5 and it really is terrific. I needed to capture old maps that are bound in oversized books, too cumbersome for copying, and it is so much better to have the images captured digitally so I can zoom in the areas of interest. Also, using it for capturing photos in old albums that have been pretty much cemented to the page. They are impossible to remove and scan individually without destroying the album.

Resolution and quality are tremendous. And the ability to dictate notes that are translated to text…well…that’s just awesome! Now, if I just can get comfortable with moving it in different directions. It feels like a mirror-image motion, but the more I use it, I see improvement with my ability to master this.

I have been dying to have a document camera in my classroom and upon reciept of a small grant I was able to purchase the Solo 5. I've just playing with it for a day or so, but am so excited about its applications in the classroom. It was easy to set up and install the software (although I did have to restart my computer to get it to recognize the camera which was not mentioned in the instructions anywhere). It takes up very little room so I'll be able to leave it at the ready all time. However, it is also super simple to tuck away should I need the table space. The kids are so excited to use it and I am planning on an assignment to create a tutorial so that they can use the video recording feature.

Always too dark or too light. Perhaps it could be the lighting in our classrooms. Overall good purchase for the money. Excellent rapport from support sales/personnel.

Response from Touchboards: I believe this is your room lighting. If the image is too bright you can simply turn off the LED lights on the hovercam. Most of the time you dont even need the LED lights on the hovercam.

THE CAMERA WAS A NICE ITEM, BUT IT WASN'T COMPATIBLE WITH MUCH OF THE EQUIPMENT WE ALREADY HAD IN THE CLASSROOM. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAD TO RETURN IT.

Touchboards response: We have sold literally many thousands of these cameras and we never hear of any compatibility issues. I am 99% sure this is user error.

If anyone has an issue please call us before giving up. These are mac and PC compatible and work with any brand smartboard or interactive whiteboard.

I also like how the neck moves and how the head also moves and has controls on it as well. I had an old LCD projector before and it didn't work that well with that projector. But with the new digital LCD projector I have now this camera is wonderful.
I bought the long USB cable as well, which I couldn't find in any store and most certainly not for the price they have here. It allowed me to set up my camera away from my desk and closer to the students.

I purchased the HoverCam Solo 5, primarily to photograph obituaries printed in full size newspapers contained in very large hard cover volume bound books. Although I haven't had an opportunity yet to see if it will fulfill my need I believe that it will. Here are my thoughts on the latest document camera from HoverCam, the SOLO5.
PROS;
Size-This document camera is very portable with a small footprint so that it will not take up a lot of space on your desk. It also folds up and fits into a soft pouch that is included.
Images- the SOLO5 has a 5MP camera that produces images that are very comparable to cameras that cost hundreds of dollars more. When the camera is at its “standard” position, it will capture a 8.5”x11” area. The head of the camera can be moved up so that a larger area, such as A4, A3, and Legal, can be viewed.
