What is the function of the second Cat 5 cable?
The second Cat5 cable provides enhanced compatibilities with your devices as listed below : - Real HDCP - [High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection] without HDCP your content will either play at a very low quality or may not play at all - Real EDID data - [Extended Display Identification Data] your display contains a chip with its operating parameters. This information is used by the video source to automatically set the optimal resolution and refresh rate common to both the source and monitor - Detect the HPD/+5V signals when pluging/unplugig HDMI monitors.-[Hot Plug Detect]Some monitors require an external +5VDc to power their EDID chip.

Yes You may cascade up to 10 levels provided there is no more than 10m [32ft] separation between individual units.
How do I to obtain the best quality video?
For the best video quality: - Use shielded (STP) CAT6 with metal RJ-45 especially in electrically noisy areas. - Select high quality CAT5/CAT5e cable [solid wires is best] or a low skew cable such as ATEN 2L-2801 Low Skew Cat 5 Cable) - Manually adjust the EQ setting on the receiver.
